Ranking Every Anime I've Watched

Okay look, technically this isn't my November post at all given I'm writing this almost a month later, but like, oh well.

Now growing up, I was never much of an anime-watcher, in fact, I apparently used to think lesser of those that did. I had watched my first one, Death Note, back in my first year of high school and hadn't watched my second until my fourth year of university. It's funny since like, I actually did enjoy Death Note quite a bit. :p

Anyway, since then I've watched quite a bit more, with anime becoming my main form of video entertainment. I've only really watched the popular ones though, so don't expect any incredibly niche ones. I'm rather conflicted with whether I count entire series/franchises as a single entry, but I'll decide on a case by case basis.

S Tier:

Hunter x Hunter

Easily my favourite anime of all time - it's just so peak. I'm referring to the 2011 adaptation here since I don't really bother watching the older versions. This series feels like an anime version of the MCU - i.e. a vast world with a variety of different independent story threads that eventually all come back together to complete a piece. Everything in this world is just so interesting, like the characters were already great, but then they introduce the whole power system of Nen, and everything becomes even more engaging (Nen is also easily the greatest power system written).

The Chimera Ant Arc itself is impeccable once it gets to the palace invasion, although honestly I almost quit watching during the Palm saga, but that's pretty much my only complaint. I don't think many other series can also pull off having main characters disappear for entire arcs, with the main characters of Gon and Killua missing from the current manga arc. Also, someone online pointed out that most the series is just grown adults beating kids up, and it kind of increased my respect for it since a lot of series take me out of it when they have children with immense talent that are almost instantly overtaking adults who have spent years training.

Also, the soundtrack is impeccable and elevates every scene, which will be the case for pretty much all my top ratings. My favourites are:

  • Elegy of the Dynast
  • Hunters ARE evil
  • The Last Mission

Steins Gate

Frieren

Full Metal Alchemist

Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc

A Tier

Monster

Attack on Titan

Jujitsu Kaisen

Evangelion

B Tier

Chainsaw Man

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War

Death Note

C Tier

Bleach

The definition of a slog. Like, the concepts introduced are fun and engaging, it's just that everything is dragged out into oblivion, and I haven't even watched the filler arcs... The first arc, the Soul Society arc, is probably the best one as the plot is more focused and every concept is still interesting thanks to the mystery. However, the series almost immediately becomes bloated. The Hueco Mundo arc was probably the most painful arc I've ever watched, with each of the four main characters having individual multi-episode fights, and it wasn't even like they were against the main villains, it was against some characters who are brought up solely for the fight and then not seen again for decades. I don't even know why I continued past this point. The power system is also a bit lackluster and the complaints that the characters explain their ability too much is 100% true. The soundtrack is a banger though and is honestly the best part aside from the character Zaraki.
